Urgent On-The-Day Care

Our Duty Team, consisting of a doctor and our advanced nurse practitioner, manages our urgent care every morning.  To access this urgent, on-the-day service patients are required to ring the surgery between 8:00am and 10:00am each day.

A clinician will return your call and, if an examination is deemed necessary, a face to face appointment will be made.  Please be aware that for non-urgent, ongoing or long-standing problems you will be booked into the next available routine appointment.

If you need to speak to your GP on a non-urgent or routine matter please ring the surgery.  Your details will be taken and given to the GP requested for them to ring you when they are next available.  The receptionist will inform you when you can expect a call back or they may ask you to ring in on another day.

If you find it difficult attending a routine appointment during our normal working hours our doctors hold a monthly Saturday clinic from 8:00am to 11:00am. *Please note that due to the pandemic this is not currently available.*

In addition, we are able to provide GP telephone consultations on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 7:00pm.

Please speak to a receptionist who will be able to advise you further regarding booking and availability.

It is important that you inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment so that it can be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list.

There are many easy ways to cancel:

• Via your online services account.
• Complete the appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays).
• Text CANCEL in response to your confirmation message.
• Email enquiries.lodgesurgery@nhs.net
• Call us on 01249-479809, 24 hours a day.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception as early on the day as possible.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

We use a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments direct to your mobile phone.

You can also download the MJOG app which will allow you to cancel appointments by text.
